The Best Dinner Rolls

Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees F.

Yield: 2 dozen rolls

1 C. milk

1/2 C. water

1/4 C butter

3 1/2 to 4 1/2 C all purpose flour

3 T. granulated sugar

1 tsp. Salt

2 scant T. instant dry yeast or 2 pkg. active dry yeast


Combine milk,water and butter in microwave safe bowl. Heat until liquids are very warm (120 to 130 degrees F.) Butter does not need to melt.

Place 1 1/2 C flour,sugar,salt and yeast in separate mixing bowl. Stir to mix.

Gradually add liquids to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes with electric mixer on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.

Add 1/2 C. flour.

Beat at high speed 2 minutes,scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.

Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic – about 5 minutes.

Place in greased bowl,turning to grease top.


Place in warm place away from drafts.

Let rise 15 minutes.

Divide into 4 pieces so it is easier to work with.

Divide each into 6 equal pieces and roll into balls .

Place on a baking sheet to let rise or freeze at this point for use later and store in frozen dough balls in a zip lock baggie.

Cover lightly with clean dish towel.

Let rise in warm place about 15 minutes. Bake at 425 degrees F. for 12 minutes or until done.
To use frozen rolls place desired amount of rolls on a baking sheet to defrost and rise. This may take several hours. Bake as usual.
