Creamy Bacon Dip

1 lb. bacon, cooked until crispy and crumbled

1 lb. round loaf of bread*

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

16 oz. sour cream

1 (4 oz.) can of chopped green chilis, drained

…4 green onions, chopped

Cut off top of bread to form a cover.  Remove bread from inside of the loaf, leaving a 1/2″ shell of bread.  Cut removed bread into 1″ cubes. 

Combine cream cheese, sour cream, chilis & onions.  Stir in bacon.  Spoon mixture into bread and replace bread top.  Wrap bread in heavy foil and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350°.  serve with bread cubes for dipping.

(I used light cream cheese and light sour cream.  I also used an additional loaf of bread cut into cubes for ‘dippers’.)

*If you want to make your own round loaves, you can bake bread dough (storebought or homemade) in a greased, oven-safe bowl.
